Swedish collaboration combines design, renewable energy and affordability to help create a better life at home for the many people
Bangkok, 11 June 2026 – IKEA Thailand and Midsummer Siam Co., Ltd., the Thailand subsidiary of Swedish solar technology company Midsummer AB, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on bringing innovative and more sustainable solar energy solutions closer to everyday life in Thailand and making it available for more people.
The MoU signing took place during the Embassy of Sweden Sustainable Development Forum 2026 in Bangkok and marks the beginning of a collaboration between two Swedish brands with a shared ambition: To help people live a more sustainable, affordable and better everyday life.
Under the collaboration, Midsummer Siam’s lightweight thin-film solar solutions will initially be displayed at IKEA Bangna, with the ambition to explore future opportunities together through broader customer engagement initiatives.

The collaboration will explore how well-designed, functional and accessible renewable energy solutions can become part of everyday life in Thailand — helping people reduce their energy costs and their environmental footprint at the same time.

Midsummer’s ultra-lightweight and flexible thin-film CIGS solar panels are designed for applications where conventional solar panels may be difficult to install due to weight, aesthetics or roof limitations. The panels are durable, recyclable and designed with an ultra-low lifecycle carbon footprint, making them particularly well suited for sustainable buildings and modern urban environments and in remote aeras with less reliable power supply and where roof strength may not support traditional heavier PV panels.
The collaboration reflects both the growing need and interest in making sustainability more practical, accessible and inspiring for consumers.
Leonie Hoskin, Retail Business Manager, IKEA Thailand and Vietnam commented: “At IKEA, we believe that sustainable living should be affordable, attractive and accessible for the many people. Alongside our unique range of home furnishing products, we are excited to explore this collaboration with Midsummer Siam the potential of innovative solar solutions to support to a more sustainable everyday life at home in Thailand. This partnership also reflects our broader sustainability ambition advancing circular design and moving towards becoming climate positive by enabling more efficient use of resources and reducing climate impact.”
Lars Svensson, Representative of Midsummer Siam and Head of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development ASEAN for Midsummer AB, commented: “This collaboration is exciting because it connects renewable energy with everyday life in a very human and practical way. Sustainability should not feel complicated or exclusive. It should be accessible, beautiful, functional and help people live better lives while also helping the planet. Thailand has enormous potential for rooftop solar and sustainable living solutions. Together with IKEA Thailand, we hope to inspire people to see that renewable energy can become a natural and elegant part of the home and built environment.”
H.E. Anna Hammargren, Ambassador of Sweden to Thailand, commented: “This collaboration is a wonderful example of how Swedish innovation, sustainability and design can contribute to Thailand’s green transition ambitions. It is encouraging to see Swedish companies working together in Thailand to support practical climate solutions that also improve everyday life.”
