  • SweCham Team Fika!

A Warm Welcome Fika with Khun Nichakarn! < Back SweCham Team Fika! 2 Sept 2024 We were delighted to welcome our new intern, Khun Nichakarn (Garn), to the team with a traditional fika, a cherished Swedish tradition. This marked her first time experiencing this beloved tradition with us. Over cups of coffee and tea and the sweetness of chocolate balls, we embraced the spirit of fika, a time to pause and connect with each other. We were also honoured to have the President of SweCham, Khun Peter Björk, joining us for this celebration. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to connect, enjoy some treats, and get to know each other better. A special thanks to the President of SweCham for joining us today and helping to make Khun Nichakarn’s welcome truly special! #SweCham #TeamSweCham #TeamSweden #Intern Previous Next

  • Remembering Tetra Pak's Involvement in ASEAN's First UHT Carton Recycling Project

In 2000, Tetra Pak (Thailand) played a pivotal role in establishing ASEAN’s first recycling plant dedicated to converting used UHT drink cartons into recyclable material. < Back Remembering Tetra Pak's Involvement in ASEAN's First UHT Carton Recycling Project 3 Oct 2024 ‘Tetra Pak supports unique recycling project’ from STEP Magazine Vol. 9/No. 4, August 2000 Tetra Pak (Thai), one of the world's leading suppliers of liquid food processing and packaging systems, is supporting the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to set up ASEAN's first recycling plant for converting used UHT drink cartons into a recyclable material. The project is Tetra Pak's tribute to His Majesty the King for his vital role in supporting the country's environmental initiatives. The project is expected to be operational by December 2000. "The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has provided a 2 rai plot of land in Soi On Nuch to house the plant, while Tetra Pak will provide machinery, training and other related technical support for staff. Krungthep Thanakom, a company belonging to the BMA will operate and manage the recycling plant," says Mr. Trond Indseth, Tetra Pak (Thai)'s Managing Director. Magic Eyes has also participated in the project by providing integrated promotional activities to generate awareness and public participation with a special emphasis on schools in Bangkok. The bulk of the raw material will come from used UHT cartons from the BMA's school milk project. Green Board, the material that is produced from the used cartons, can be used to produce sturdy furniture, partitions and gift products. This is the first recycling plant of this kind both in Thailand and ASEAN. The plant will use the same technology as similar recycling projects in Germany, Turkey, China, Pakistan arid Kenya. The recycling plant should enhance awareness of the recycling process and waste management techniques as well as environmental concern among the local population. In addition, the plant adds values to what was essentially garbage. "The recycling plant will help to significantly reduce the cost of collecting and treating household waste. The plant will also create job opportunities in the local community, so the BMA has approved the project and appointed its subsidiary Krungthep Thanakom to manage and operate the plant," says Mr. Somkuan Rawirath, Deputy Permanent Secretary of BMA. Krungthep Thanakom will be responsible for the construction of the plant to house the machinery, which is due to, arrive in October. As a BMA subsidiary, Krungthep Thanakom operates as a non-profit organization. The recycling project represents a climate of cooperation between the private and public sectors for the betterment of environment and improved quality of life, added Krungthep Thanakom Chairman Luen Krisanakri. Promotional activities to build awareness will be handled by Magic Eyes. Senator Khunying Chodchoi Sophonpanich said that a series of activities in schools in Bangkok will begin in September, which will include mini dramas, seminars, newsletters and jingles. • Throwback Spotlight: SweCham Member Volvo’s 30-Year Journey in Thailand

In October 2001, Volvo marked three decades of successful operations in Thailand, a journey that began in 1971 with the establishment of Volvo Thailand Limited (VTL). Since then, Volvo has consistently set new standards with its cutting-edge technology and high-quality vehicles. < Back Throwback Spotlight: SweCham Member Volvo’s 30-Year Journey in Thailand 12 Sept 2024 ‘Volvo Celebrates 30 years in Thailand’ from STEP Magazine Vol. 10/No. 6, December 2001 Past October did Volvo celebrate its third decade of successful operations in the Kingdom. Volvo’s first big step into Thailand came in 1971 when Volvo Thailand Limited (VTL) was registered. VTL was a wholly owned subsidiary of Volvo Car Corporation, Sweden. Swedish Motors Corporation (SMC) was established in 1973, becoming the only authorized distributor of Volvo cars, parts and accessories nationwide. Three years later, Thai Swedish Assembly Co., Ltd. (TSA) laid the foundation of its assembly factory off the Bang Na Trad Highway to manufacture Volvo cars locally. During the years that followed, the success of Volvo in Thailand was marked by increased sales and an impressive reputation. By 1989, Volvo cars had captured over a third of the luxury car market, and that same year, SMC became a publicly listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. In 1997, when the economic crisis hit Thailand and the region, consequently affecting the automobile industry, parent company Volvo Car Corporation stepped in to restructure SMC by investing 1,000 million Baht into the local Volvo operations. Volvo Car (Thailand) Limited (VCT) was then established in Thailand, assuming full responsibility over the nationwide dealer network. SMC became the exclusive dealer of Volvo cars in the Bangkok metropolitan area. Throughout three decades of continuous presence in Thailand, Volvo has maintained a privileged image amongst the Thai public, giving the company a solid reputation firmly linked with its core values – safety, quality and care for the environment. “Volvo has become a leader in the country’s luxury car market. After three decades, Volvo and Thailand have become true partners – sticking together through good times and bad. But it has all paid odd because today, there are so many things we can be proud of. Volvo is the only luxury car brand in the market that offers a complete range of premium cars built to suit the needs and tastes of ALL customer segments. It is the only luxury car brand with a complete assembly operation in Thailand – TSA, which incidentally, is also celebrating its 25th anniversary. And last but not least, Volvo’s name has become synonymous with the sponsorship and organization of sports and recreational activities, illustrating the ‘Volvo For Life’ concept which encourages people to live life to the fullest,” says Mr. Karl Johan Sandesjo, President of Volvo Car (Thailand): Thai Swedish Assembly (TSA) which is wholly owned by Volvo Car Corporation of Sweden, was the first complete Volvo engine assembly plant outside Sweden. In 1982 and 1992, it received the “Highest Quality Performance Award” by Volvo Car Corporation, and was the first assembly plant outside Europe to achieve ISO 9002 recognition. In addition, TSA was awarded the ISO 14001 certification and the ISO 9001L2000, followed by the Golden Medal Award for Health Workplace from the Ministry of Public Health. Previous Next
