The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about Astronut’s products, vision, and ambitions within the Thai–Swedish business community. During the visit, Astronut introduced their product line and conducted a live tasting session, allowing the SweCham team to experience their offerings firsthand. The discussion also expanded into shared interests, potential areas of collaboration, and opportunities to support one another through the Chamber’s community and corporate engagement activities. SweCham values meaningful connections with forward-thinking start-ups that bring fresh perspectives and entrepreneurial energy into our network. Engaging with companies like Astronut helps strengthen our mission to promote innovation, cross-cultural business relationships, and sustainable growth between Thailand and Sweden. Among the changes, Maria Malmer Stenergard, previously the Minister for Migration, was appointed as the new Minister for Foreign Affairs, assuming this key diplomatic role. Johan Forssell, who had been serving as Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, was reassigned as Minister for Migration. Benjamin Dousa, former CEO of Företagarna, took over as the new Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade. Former Minister for Employment and Integration, Johan Pehrson, assumed the role of Minister for Education, while Mats Persson, the former Education Minister, became the new Minister for Employment and Integration. Additionally, Jessica Rosencrantz, former Chair of the EU Affairs Committee, was appointed as the new Minister for EU Affairs, marking her first position in government. These changes aim to bring new perspectives and strengthen the government’s capacity to address international, educational, and labour market challenges. - Embassy of Sweden and BMA are raising LGBTQI+ Awareness in the Workplace
SweCham team joined the public seminar on ‘How to prevent LGBTQI+ discrimination and harassment in the workplace’ co-hosted by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok. < Back Embassy of Sweden and BMA are raising LGBTQI+ Awareness in the Workplace 19 Jun 2023 On 14 June, SweCham team joined the public seminar on ‘How to prevent LGBTQI+ discrimination and harassment in the workplace’ co-hosted by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok. The seminar was opened to the public. People from distinguished organisations joined to gain more knowledge and actively share their perspectives in this area. On this occasion, the Bangkok governor, Mr Chadchart Sittipunt, and the Ambassador of Sweden, H.E. Mr Jon Åström Gröndahl, gave welcoming speeches. Additionally, this public seminar was moderated by our executive director, Dr Pojanath Bhatanacharoen. At the seminar, Ms Ulla Perman, Development Officer, Development and Analysis Unit, Equality Ombudsman, explained what LGBTQI+ discrimination and harassment in the workplace is and shared with everyone ways to prevent it. Attendees also learned more about the guiding principles for organisations to prevent LGBTQI+ discrimination and harassment in the workplace presented by Mr Karl Yves Vallin, Managing Director, Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Rights (RFSL). In addition, Mr Christian Dassonville, Country Human Resource Manager, IKEA Thailand, shared that an inclusive workplace helps employees become more productive, which also benefits the business. As part of the LGBTQI+ community, James (Rusameekae) Fagerlund, a celebrity in Thailand, also shared his experience and perspectives regarding LGBTQI+ visibility, discrimination, and harassment. As the seminar was opened to the public, people within the LGBTQI+ community received an opportunity to discuss issues regarding discrimination and harassment. < Back SweCham Company Visit to Volvo Car Thailand Central Distribution & Training Centre, 23 April 2024 On 23 April 2024, as part of the SweCham Sustainability Working Group activities, the SweCham Team, along with our members and friends, had an exclusive visit to Volvo Car Thailand's innovative warehouse, Volvo Car Thailand Central Distribution & Training Centre (VCT CDTC). The visit offered participants valuable insights into both Volvo's sustainable initiatives and their cutting-edge warehouse technology. During the tour around their facility, we also had the opportunity to explore their warehouse management process. In addition, we were particularly impressed by how Volvo Car Thailand is utilising advanced technologies to transform their entire vehicle production process towards sustainability. These were the highlights from our visit: ♻️ Sustainability at its core The VCT CDTC, capable of storing up to 550 Volvo cars, utilises 100% renewable energy sources, including a solar roof that is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 215 tons annually! They are also committed to battery recycling and expanding their electric vehicle range. 🚗 Cutting-edge technology The warehouse boasts a high-tech management system, the Volvo Car Centralise System, which ensures efficient distribution of vehicles and parts across the region. In addition, this system is designed to support Volvo's long-term plans for Thailand. ✨ Quality you can trust Volvo's comprehensive warehouse management plan integrates five key functions: Distribution Centre, Pre-Delivery Service, Parts Distribution Centre, Training Centre, and Press Car Centre. This ensures a high level of care for every vehicle before it reaches its owner! Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) presented at THE Digital Universities Asia 2023 event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. < Back SUT Joins THE Digital Universities Asia 2023 by Times Higher Education 30 May 2023 On 9 May 2023, Dr. Sorachai Kamollimsakul, the Director of the Center for Educational Innovation and Technology at Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), represented the university at THE Digital Universities Asia 2023 event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The panel session titled ‘HyFlex education in VUCA world’ discussed the challenges of higher education in the face of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) in the world. Dr. Sorachai was one of the panellists, along with representatives from other universities. They discussed lessons learned from VUCA, the benefits of Hybrid Flexible (HyFlex) transformation in improving student learning, the integration of HyFlex approaches into institutional policy, and the risks and challenges associated with HyFlex education. Dr. Sorachai shared SUT’s experience in adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing HyFlex learning through their digital platform called XLANE, which offers a variety of micro-credential modular courses. These courses provide flexible, adaptive, and responsive learning experiences to prepare students for a VUCA world. Upon completion, learners receive digital certificates or badges with credits that can be applied towards a degree in the future. The event also gave us the opportunity to hear insightful speeches from H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand; H.E. Mrs. Luisa Ragher, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union to the Kingdom of Thailand; and Mr. Pierre Jaffré, President of the Thai-European Business Association. Following the speeches, the evening continued with a lively networking session, offering an excellent opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new ones.
