All non-Thai nationals entering Thailand — by air, land, or sea — must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival. This new digital system replaces paper forms and helps make immigration faster, easier, and more secure. This initiative replaces the paper-based TM6 card, which has been used for over a decade to enhance the travel experience and streamline immigration procedures, and reflects a move towards modernizing entry processes, aligning with practices in many other countries. Travelers planning to visit Thailand on or after 1 May 2025, will be kindly requested to complete the TDAC online. The application will be accessible three days prior to arrival, beginning 28 April 2025, and is required for all foreign nationals, regardless of visa status, at no charge. In addition, we held a productive meeting to discuss potential collaborations for a sustainability event this year. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for us to share our ongoing sustainability projects and explore potential avenues for collaboration. Notably, TCEB has been dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within the MICE industry. They plan to host events showcasing initiatives undertaken by private organisations, aiming to raise awareness and encourage the adoption of sustainable event practices among their staff and representatives from other public organisations in Thailand. Moreover, Sasin School of Management, renowned for their impactful graduates and dedication to sustainable business practices, emerged as a perfect partner for this project. Their expertise and commitment to sustainability align perfectly with TCEB's goal to advance their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda within the MICE industry. The event was distinguished by the presence of ambassadors from each Nordic nation, each introducing a notable film from their country, highlighting the diverse and profound storytelling traditions of the Nordic region. These introductions offered the audience a fascinating insight into the distinct narrative styles and film-making approaches characteristic of each country, painting a vivid picture of the Nordic cinematic landscape. The movies of the festival were: 🎥Amundsen, Norway 🇳🇴 🎥Riders of Justice, Denmark 🇩🇰 🎥Super Furball Saves the Future, Finland 🇫🇮 🎥Triangle of Sadness, Sweden 🇸🇪 The first movie of the festival was the Swedish movie ‘Triangle of Sadness’ by Ruben Östlund. To keep you updated with Thailand's economy, a summary of the World Bank's Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor, May 2023 has been prepared for you. < Back World Bank: Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor 31 May 2023 World Bank: Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor summary The economy is moderately expanding as consumption grows with support from the recovering tourism and labour market. In contrast, manufacturing production and exported goods were in decline due to the decline in external demand. Tourism has picked up from the previous months with a higher number of Chinese visitors and tour groups. There is also an increase in visitors from India, ASEAN, and Europe. Exported goods in March 2023 had the lowest rate compared to the other months of the year, but Thailand is still performing reasonably well compared to the neighbouring countries in Asia. Inflation rate decreases due to wide-range price reductions with lower core and raw food inflation. On the other hand, the energy price inflation increases. As a result of the decline in global oil prices, the government imposes caps on energy prices to alleviate inflation. Fiscal deficit decreases but as the government introduces the cost-of-living support measure, the deficit will remain high. Measures such as electricity price caps would require government subsidies from the central budget. The government also impose a tax cut on diesel to help with the increasing oil price. The government suggested four measures for tax reform: 1) reviewing tax structure; 2) adjusting the system with digital economy; 3) tax reduction for the environmentally friendly activities, and 4) fairer tax approach. These goals will accelerate fiscal consolidation under the medium-term budgetary plan. Thai Baht appreciates in line with the Nominal Effective Exchange Rate as a result of the rise in account surplus. The causes of the surplus were reduction in oil imports and an increase in tourism in the past months. The event provided an opportunity for all participants to learn and share perspectives and experience through discussion in a relaxing setting. The event began with welcoming remarks by Mrs. Vibeke Lyssand Leirvag, Chairwoman of the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand (JFCCT), followed by a Keynote Speech by Mr Phairush Burapachaisri, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand. After the Keynote Speech, an Ambassadors and chamber Presidents Group photo session was held, and then the event ended with an open networking session. Volvo’s first big step into Thailand came in 1971 when Volvo Thailand Limited (VTL) was registered. VTL was a wholly owned subsidiary of Volvo Car Corporation, Sweden. Swedish Motors Corporation (SMC) was established in 1973, becoming the only authorized distributor of Volvo cars, parts and accessories nationwide. Three years later, Thai Swedish Assembly Co., Ltd. (TSA) laid the foundation of its assembly factory off the Bang Na Trad Highway to manufacture Volvo cars locally. During the years that followed, the success of Volvo in Thailand was marked by increased sales and an impressive reputation. By 1989, Volvo cars had captured over a third of the luxury car market, and that same year, SMC became a publicly listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. In 1997, when the economic crisis hit Thailand and the region, consequently affecting the automobile industry, parent company Volvo Car Corporation stepped in to restructure SMC by investing 1,000 million Baht into the local Volvo operations. Volvo Car (Thailand) Limited (VCT) was then established in Thailand, assuming full responsibility over the nationwide dealer network. SMC became the exclusive dealer of Volvo cars in the Bangkok metropolitan area. Throughout three decades of continuous presence in Thailand, Volvo has maintained a privileged image amongst the Thai public, giving the company a solid reputation firmly linked with its core values – safety, quality and care for the environment. “Volvo has become a leader in the country’s luxury car market. After three decades, Volvo and Thailand have become true partners – sticking together through good times and bad. But it has all paid odd because today, there are so many things we can be proud of. During her time at SweCham, Chanantida supports our social media activities, helps organize events, and contributes to member communications. She’s also involved in administrative tasks and project coordination, playing a key role in keeping our day-to-day operations running smoothly. Through this experience, she’s gaining hands-on insight into international business, chamber operations, and stakeholder engagement in a dynamic, multicultural environment.
