The game has created the opportunity for individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds to get a deeper insight into sustainability and the SDGs. The game frames how participants think, highlighting potential biases, and the game ultimately succeeds with illustrating the complexity of global issues. In the game, you are divided into teams tasked with navigating the complexities of allocating time, money, and deciding which projects to support while trying to achieve a balanced economy, environment, and society. - World Bank: Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor
To keep you updated with Thailand's economy, a summary of the World Bank's Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor, May 2023 has been prepared for you. < Back World Bank: Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor 31 May 2023 World Bank: Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor summary The economy is moderately expanding as consumption grows with support from the recovering tourism and labour market. In contrast, manufacturing production and exported goods were in decline due to the decline in external demand. Tourism has picked up from the previous months with a higher number of Chinese visitors and tour groups. There is also an increase in visitors from India, ASEAN, and Europe. Exported goods in March 2023 had the lowest rate compared to the other months of the year, but Thailand is still performing reasonably well compared to the neighbouring countries in Asia. Inflation rate decreases due to wide-range price reductions with lower core and raw food inflation. On the other hand, the energy price inflation increases. As a result of the decline in global oil prices, the government imposes caps on energy prices to alleviate inflation. Fiscal deficit decreases but as the government introduces the cost-of-living support measure, the deficit will remain high. Measures such as electricity price caps would require government subsidies from the central budget. The government also impose a tax cut on diesel to help with the increasing oil price. The government suggested four measures for tax reform: 1) reviewing tax structure; 2) adjusting the system with digital economy; 3) tax reduction for the environmentally friendly activities, and 4) fairer tax approach. These goals will accelerate fiscal consolidation under the medium-term budgetary plan. Thai Baht appreciates in line with the Nominal Effective Exchange Rate as a result of the rise in account surplus. The causes of the surplus were reduction in oil imports and an increase in tourism in the past months. - TCEB Strategic Direction 2024: Event Recap
The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) organised the TCEB Strategic Direction 2024 event, titled ‘Driving Thailand Forward as High-Value Added MICE’, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. < Back TCEB Strategic Direction 2024: Event Recap 25 Oct 2023 On 24 October, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) organised the TCEB Strategic Direction 2024 event, titled ‘Driving Thailand Forward as High-Value Added MICE’, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. SweCham President Peter Björk participated alongside other JFCCT representatives. In addition to TCEB executives and staff, many organisations in the MICE industry were present, including PATA, TICA, THA, and several airlines. During the event, TCEB executives presented new trends in the MICE industry and discussed how Thailand can reposition itself to compete globally in an ever-changing world, building upon Thailand's existing competitive advantages. The discussion highlighted that Generation Z business travellers will significantly influence the industry, driving new trends and expectations. They will opt for shorter and more frequent trips with a focus on value and results. Technological advancements, including AI, will be utilised to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, making innovation a key factor. MICE events are increasingly viewed as essential business events, empowering employees to fully understand their organisation's vision, values, and culture, shaping a positive perception of the organisation among customers. Regional targets will become more important than global scale, and sustainability practices will be essential. Additionally, TCEB presented a comprehensive survey on factors that matter when choosing destinations, including safety, value for money, readiness of facilities, and local community support. Thailand leads in categories such as value for money, the country's brand image, and readiness of accommodation. However, there is a need to catch up in areas such as technology advancement, high-value destination offerings, and sustainability. The event also discussed transforming Thailand for the future, utilising the country's flagship industries such as food security, creative soft power, health tech innovations, and urban quality of life (QOL) and mobility. Exciting times lie ahead as Thailand navigates these transformative strategies.
