- PReMA is Poised to Propel Thai Medicine to the Forefront of Clinical Research in Southeast Asia
Medication has significantly increased human longevity by making diseases like diabetes and heart disease manageable. < Back PReMA is Poised to Propel Thai Medicine to the Forefront of Clinical Research in Southeast Asia 14 Jun 2024 Medication has significantly increased human longevity by making diseases like diabetes and heart disease manageable. However, new diseases require innovative drugs developed through clinical trials. Khun Roman Ramos, President of the Association of Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufacturers (PReMA) and Country President of AstraZeneca Thailand, believes Thailand could become a clinical research hub in Southeast Asia due to its strong healthcare infrastructure and expert professionals. Government support, including streamlined approvals, tax incentives, and initiatives like the Eastern Economic Corridor, enhances this potential. Becoming a clinical research hub would boost Thailand's economy and improve public health by providing hospitals with better equipment and quicker drug market entry. Despite these advantages, challenges include extending research beyond urban hospitals and speeding up drug approvals. Overall, Khun Roman stresses the need for an improved ecosystem to fully realise this potential. Read the full article in Thai Previous Next

- Preventing Colon Cancer with Early Detection: AI-Assisted Colonoscopy
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and its incidence continues to rise, particularly among younger adults. < Back Preventing Colon Cancer with Early Detection: AI-Assisted Colonoscopy 9 Apr 2025 Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and its incidence continues to rise, particularly among younger adults. However, early detection significantly improves survival rates and reduces the risk of developing advanced-stage cancer. Why Early Detection Matters Research shows that 90% of colon cancers originate from harmless polyps, which can be detected and removed before they become cancerous. Since colon cancer often presents no symptoms in its early stages, regular screenings are essential. Colonoscopy remains the most effective screening method, as it not only detects abnormalities but also allows for the immediate removal of polyps in the same procedure—offering both preventive and treatment benefits for better patient outcomes. Although colorectal cancer is traditionally associated with older adults, younger individuals often underestimate their risk due to the misconception that it is solely an age-related disease. As a result, CRC screening is now recommended starting at age 45. Individuals can begin with a fecal occult blood test as a non-invasive initial screening method. Advancements in Screening Technology At Samitivej, we utilize EndoBRAIN-EYE , an AI-assisted colonoscopy system, combined with Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) to enhance screening accuracy. Developed in collaboration with Sano Hospital in Japan, this technology enables real-time analysis of colonoscopy images, helping doctors detect even the smallest abnormalities for a more precise diagnosis. Why Choose Early Screening with AI-Assisted Colonoscopy? 1.5x Higher Detection Accuracy – Ensures early-stage issues are identified and effectively managed. Reduces Colon Cancer Risk by Over 60% – Polyps can be removed before they develop into cancer. 20x Lower Treatment Costs – Prevents the need for expensive, advanced-stage treatments. By prioritizing early screenings and recognizing risks early, we can reduce the impact of colon cancer and improve health outcomes. Don’t wait for symptoms—early detection is the key to prevention and saving lives. - Get a new 4-serotype dengue fever vaccine at Samitivej Hospital
[Member Promotion] Protecting Your Family with Vaccination from Samitivej Hospital < Back Get a new 4-serotype dengue fever vaccine at Samitivej Hospital 22 Apr 2024 Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne illness caused by the dengue virus, is a major public health concern in tropical and subtropical regions like Bangkok. While symptoms can range from mild to severe, the potential for serious complications like dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS) makes prevention crucial. Although only a small percentage (around 10%) of those with severe symptoms have DHF or DSS, the risk of death becomes significant if these complications are not promptly addressed. Fortunately, there was a very low mortality rate for dengue fever, with less than 1% of cases proving fatal. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical to maintaining this positive statistic. Symptoms to watch for 🔹Sudden high fever (up to 105°F or 40°C) 🔹Headache 🔹Muscle and joint pain 🔹Nausea and vomiting 🔹Red rash or spots in the abdomen, arms and leg, and blackened stools 🔹Fatigue Diagnosis and treatment Dengue fever is diagnosed based on symptoms and medical history, with potential blood tests for confirmation. There is no specific cure, but treatment focuses on supportive measures like rest, fluids, pain relievers, and fever reducers. In severe cases, hospitalisation may be necessary. Prevention measures The best overall prevention method is to avoid mosquito bites: 🔹Use insect repellent 🔹Wear long-sleeved clothing and pants 🔹Eliminate standing water sources around your home Don't forget to take your family to get a new 4-serotype dengue fever vaccine. It is a powerful tool in the fight against dengue fever.
