< Back APAC SwedCham Webinar: CEO Talk: Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab Group, 8 November 2023 On 8 November, SwedCham in Singapore hosted a webinar with Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab Group, on the topic of national security, with a focus on the nature of defence manufacturing and strategies. Micael Johansson started by summarising SAAB’s key areas, along with its four major hubs outside of Sweden: the USA, the UK, Australia, and Germany. He explained that SAAB’s focus lies in aiding countries in rebuilding military supplies. The session transitioned to the main topic, where he discussed his views on current events and how SAAB is responding. SAAB is changing its regional supply chains. It is simultaneously building up its stockpiles, thus making SAAB more resilient to future possible security issues. The war in Ukraine has revolutionised modern warfare, with the use of traditional and civilian technologies. A connected battlefield is also something new, where both AI and the cloud are being used in real-time. This is something the SAAB CEO believes will be the future of warfare. SAAB is strategically expanding its presence in the APAC region, designating Australia as a key hub. Meanwhile, having reached market penetration in India, Thailand, and Singapore, where various products are sold in their respective countries. The event started with a visit to the Hitachi Energy's factory in the Bangpoo Industrial Estate. They adhere to KAIZEN management principles, consistently enhancing the factory to maintain exceptionally high standards with a primary emphasis on safety. The Bangpoo facility of Hitachi Energy stands as one of the group's smaller plants. Despite its size, it distinguishes itself as one of the most productive factories, demonstrating a significant commitment to sustainability and solar energy initiatives. Following our visit to Hitachi Energy, we proceeded to the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA). DEPA concentrates on enhancing Thailand's digital economy. In the Thailand Digital Valley, it now also supports firms specialising in virtual products and artificial intelligence. The agency places a strong emphasis on partnering with the private sector, notably Ericsson. Ericsson is in the process of establishing their 5G Innovation and Experience Studio (5GIX) in Thailand's Digital Valley. Additionally, attention was drawn to noteworthy infrastructure initiatives, such as high-speed rail and deepwater ports, with projected completion timelines around 2027/28. The conference highlighted how various companies strive to contribute to the development of the EEC. Amata, for example, is actively engaged in shaping smart cities, while GreenYellow Asia specialises in enhancing environmental sustainability at industrial sites through the deployment of solar cells. Additionally, Ericsson plays a pivotal role by contributing advanced 5G technology, aiming to foster greater efficiency and sustainability in production processes. The Story About SweCham The Thai-Swedish Chamber of Commerce (SweCham) was inaugurated in 1989 by Their Majesties HM King Carl XVI Gustaf and HM Queen Silvia of Sweden, and has 35 years since its existence, established itself firmly within the Thai-Swedish and international business community in Thailand. Today, the SweCham has members ranging from well-known multinational companies to small start-ups and local companies, making the Chamber an important trade association representing a range of businesses in Thailand. SINCE 1989 The Chamber conducts an essential role in the Thai-Swedish business community and continuously works to identify business- and trade problems and opportunities. As such, the Chamber provides regular business opportunities for its members through a variety of functions and activities, and it continuously seeks to develop these activities to empower the growing Swedish business community. On 25 May, the SweCham Business Connect with Camfil Thailand was successfully organised by SweCham in collaboration with Camfil Thailand at Rembrandt Bangkok Hotel & Suites. The event provided attendees with valuable insights into indoor air quality and Camfil’s Chief Airgonomics Officer initiative, along with fostering meaningful networking opportunities. At the event, Khun Kongkiat Teekamongkol, Managing Director of Camfil Thailand, delivered a captivating presentation on the importance of indoor air quality. Every year, air pollution is one of the issues faced by people in Thailand. We spend up to 90% of our life indoors, and indoor air pollution can substantially influence our health. Moreover, air pollution is also a risk factor for asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, amongst other respiratory diseases. This led to why we need a Chief Airgonomics Officer (CAO), the Voice of Clean Air in our workplace, who oversees indoor air quality to protect our health, environment, and well-being. By having the CAO, we can ensure that our employees feel safe when they come to work, which improves their productivity. In addition, this initiative also benefits our planet as it helps minimise air pollution. < Back Breakfast Seminar: Managing your IP in a world full of AI and other Digital Technologies, 6 February 2024 On the morning of 6 February, SweCham and the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk with support with the JFCCT and EABC had the pleasure of hosting a seminar on managing your IP in a world full of digital technologies, with everything from Machine learning, Generative AI, Neural Networks and NFTs being discussed and presented. The morning started with breakfast and networking, at the wonderful Oriental Residence Bangkok Hotel . We were welcomed into a luxurious environment that was perfect for the seminar. The seminar started with a warm welcome from our Executive Director, Dr. Pojanath Bhatanacharoen. We were also honoured by having Mr. Bob Fox , Chair of Digital Economy/ICT group of JFCCT and EABC, as the moderator, who gave us a comprehensive overview of the AI landscape and introduced us to our two experts of the day. The first presentation came from Khun Mook Chaichirawiwat , Country Manager, Thinking Machines Data Science , who gave us an in-depth look at how AI works. Highlighting when AI was first introduced and how the change from relatively harmless software to a powerful tool used in most businesses, and now also by individuals! The second presentation was from Mr. Franck Fougere , Managing Partner at Ananda Intellectual Property , who detailed how IP rights apply to AI-generated content. As a machine cannot be held liable and hold IP protection, the issue of who owns the IP from AI generated content can be complex one. He brought up potential liabilities of using AI, such as can you trust the company that provides the AI to not train its AI on your company data? Khun Franck highlighted the importance of having control over your data and how you utilise your data, as to reduce potential liability, in the creation of content or products that might need IP protection. The seminar ended with a brief panel discussion led by Khun Bob, where the experts answered multiple different questions in the line of, what are the limitations of AI and IP, where will liability be when AI tools are used for illegal purposes such as scams.
