On 22 August, SweCham team members attended an anti-corruption event hosted by the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, also known as PACC.  The focus was on the public service centre for investors and foreigners.   Secretary General of PACC Bhumivisan Kasemsook introduced several issues and goals.  Raising Thailand’s CPI Score, he emphasised the need to elevate Thailand’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score and that the PACC is committed to having a reliable Complaint Centre to improve foreign investors’ confidence by providing a dependable avenue for lodging complaints.  < Back SweCham Attended the PACC 2023: Public Relations Project on the Public Service Center for Investors and Foreigners 22 Aug 2023 On 22 August, SweCham team members attended an anti-corruption event hosted by the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, also known as PACC. The Secretary-General shed light on a harrowing case involving a businessman who was extorted for multi-million Baht bribes to resolve his tax issues. Following a sting operation, the corrupt official was arrested and found to have amassed assets from illicit activities. The panel discussion comprised leaders from the Thailand Chamber of Commerce, the Strategic Transformation Office, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority. They discussed: Three Key Points: Inconvenience, lack of transparency and uncertainty. Legal Reforms: The need for urgent law reform was highlighted, along with focusing on ease of doing business. Public and Private Sector Involvement: Both sectors were encouraged to collaborate in the fight against corruption. The panel discussion highlighted a few different Transparency Initiatives: Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA): The BMA uses this website, traffy.in.th , to facilitate complaints ranging from corruption to noise. ISO 37001: Implementation of an anti-bribery management system. The Final Takeaways of the seminar are, Individual Responsibility: ‘Silence lets corruption grow; see something, say something!’. Continuity: Anti-corruption efforts must continue irrespective of who is in the government. Whistleblower Protection: Safeguarding whistleblowers and encouraging reporting are crucial steps. < Back APAC SwedCham Webinar: CEO Talk: Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab Group, 8 November 2023 On 8 November, SwedCham in Singapore hosted a webinar with Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab Group, on the topic of national security, with a focus on the nature of defence manufacturing and strategies. Micael Johansson started by summarising SAAB’s key areas, along with its four major hubs outside of Sweden: the USA, the UK, Australia, and Germany. He explained that SAAB’s focus lies in aiding countries in rebuilding military supplies. The session transitioned to the main topic, where he discussed his views on current events and how SAAB is responding. SAAB is changing its regional supply chains. It is simultaneously building up its stockpiles, thus making SAAB more resilient to future possible security issues. The war in Ukraine has revolutionised modern warfare, with the use of traditional and civilian technologies. A connected battlefield is also something new, where both AI and the cloud are being used in real-time. This is something the SAAB CEO believes will be the future of warfare. SAAB is strategically expanding its presence in the APAC region, designating Australia as a key hub. Meanwhile, having reached market penetration in India, Thailand, and Singapore, where various products are sold in their respective countries. In addition, we held a productive meeting to discuss potential collaborations for a sustainability event this year. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for us to share our ongoing sustainability projects and explore potential avenues for collaboration. Notably, TCEB has been dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within the MICE industry. They plan to host events showcasing initiatives undertaken by private organisations, aiming to raise awareness and encourage the adoption of sustainable event practices among their staff and representatives from other public organisations in Thailand. Moreover, Sasin School of Management, renowned for their impactful graduates and dedication to sustainable business practices, emerged as a perfect partner for this project. Their expertise and commitment to sustainability align perfectly with TCEB's goal to advance their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda within the MICE industry. The event provided a valuable opportunity for members, partners and friends of the chamber to come together, socialise and establish connections with potential business partners. The highlight of the evening was a special presentation by Dr. Roy Andersson of Jönköping University and Dr. Kent Salomonsson of Jönköping University and University of Skövde, who discussed the topic of ‘Manufacturing in Thailand Today – Meeting Future Demands’. The insights shared during the presentation were both informative and thought-provoking, and attendees left with a deeper understanding of the subject matter. The afternoon consisted of delicious Swedish Fika, a fun themed Swedish Quiz along with a Feedback and Q&A session on the Embassy’s social media work. It was a great afternoon to learn more about Sweden and the embassy’s work in Thailand, along with networking with other top fans interested in Sweden.
